Making Waves at Lake Tahoe – 2,000 Pounds of Debris Removed and Counting

Capt Kris Kierce at work

This morning, something incredible happened. The Restoring the Lake Depths Foundation teamed up with our good friends at Lake Tahoe Diving & Environmental (LTD&E), and together we tackled one of our most rewarding missions yet. In the early hours, just as the sun began to rise over Tahoe’s stunning South Shore, our team removed over 2,000 pounds of debris from the lake's depths. And let me tell you, it felt amazing!

Armed with our Deep Emerald ROVs and a passion for restoring this natural treasure, Capt. Kristopher Kierce and I mapped out the underwater location of several massive objects—things that had no business being at the bottom of this beautiful lake. We spotted an old Aurora Pump, illegal moorings, and some smaller trash lurking 15 to 25 feet down. But this wasn’t just a job for the ROVs. We had to dive in—literally—and pull these heavy items out ourselves.

Here’s the thing: Every time we pull out a piece of trash, whether it's a microplastic or a massive object, we’re helping restore Lake Tahoe to its pristine, natural beauty. And while the gear is cool and the dives are an adrenaline rush, what makes it all worthwhile is knowing that we're protecting this incredible place for future generations. This is a place we all love, a place that deserves our best effort.

Why It Matters – And How You Can Help

Each mission we take on not only removes the visible junk but also clears the way for healthier water and wildlife. And we’re not stopping here—this is just one of many clean-up efforts we’ve got planned. But we can't do it alone. We need the support of people like you who care about preserving Lake Tahoe.

Want to get involved? There are so many ways you can help. Whether you’re a diver, an ROV enthusiast, or just someone who loves this lake, we’re always looking for volunteers, partners, and donations to fuel these missions. The more hands we have on deck, the more debris we can pull from the lake floor, and the closer we get to making Tahoe as crystal clear as it once was.

We’re in this together, and every mission is a step toward a cleaner, healthier lake. If you’re fired up like we are and want to be part of the action, reach out! Come join us on our next clean-up dive or support our efforts by spreading the word or contributing what you can.

Together, we can keep pushing forward and protect one of the most beautiful places on earth. Let’s restore the depths of Lake Tahoe—one mission at a time.
